How does Smoking hurt you?

StopWe all know that smoking is injurious to health and self. But not many quit smoking; instead new ones are getting addicted to this behavior. If you are thinking how does smoking hurt you, then smoking can hurt your body in many ways. It can affect you both physically and emotionally.

When you smoke, the smoke travels through your mouth and air track into the lungs. From there, when you respire it spreads throughout your body and organs. The smoke uses blood as a medium to reach the whole of your body. The toxins from the smoke reach all organs and finally get emptied into your urinary bladder. Also these smoke particles damage the cilium, which makes the cells in your body move. As the cells get weak in moving around, the circulation of fluid in the body is affected.

The lung’s oxygen capacity reduces as a result of smoking and it has to work hard as a result. The tissues lining the walls of the lungs get injured and the scavenger cells get damaged. Elastin, the enzyme which keeps your lungs in form, is affected by the smoke particles. The bronchial tubes get inflamed when the smoke passes through them. This inflammation can make you get emphysema or chronic bronchitis. Chronic cough is another side effect of smoking.

If you smoke a pack of cigarettes a day, it is likely that eight ounces of tar gets deposited in your lung yearly. And as the blood cells do not function properly when you smoke, your heart has to work even harder. This can lead to heart attacks. Strokes and high blood pressures also are very common in smokers.

Smoking can cause cancers in your body. Some of the cancers caused by the effects of smoking are throat cancer, lung cancer, and urinary bladder cancer. These cancers are a result of the carcinogens entering the body through the smoke.

There are around 4000 chemical elements contained in a cigarette. Formaldehyde and ammonia are two of the toxins that top the list. Most of these chemicals are toxic in nature and when inside the body, these release the toxins. And these toxins are released to the outside of the body through the pores in your skins. Due to the poisonous nature of these chemicals, the skin takes extra effort to release them and as a result your skin shrivels. It causes premature ageing. These wrinkles make you look older than what you really are.

Smoking also affects your senses of taste and smell. You lose taste as your taste buds get affected and stop working. And you can also become impotent as the blood flow to your reproductive organs is reduced.

If you smoke, even your family is affected due to the toxins and smoke. So why not think about quitting this habit now! Next time when somebody asks you how does smoking hurt you, you can have your answers ready and show yourself as an example of someone who quit smoking.
