The Effects of Cigarette Smoking
Those who smoke may think that smoking injures them only physically. But in fact, smoking has varied effects on a person. The effects of cigarette smoking depend on the intensity of smoking. If you are new to smoking or smoke once a day, then you are affected gradually over a long period of time. But if you are a chain smoker, the effect will be seen on you very quickly. The physical effects of smoking are cancer, premature aging, infertility, chronic bronchitis, and heart attack and the mental effect is social alienation.
The smoke from the cigarette passes down through your mouth to the lungs and from there is spreads to all the organs of the body through your blood. Along with the smoke, the toxins also reach your body organs. These toxins can badly affect your blood cells which carry them and the tissue linings of your internal organs. When the cilia of the blood cells are damaged, it reduces the mobility of the cells and in turn the circulation of fluids in the body is impacted. As a result, heart attacks, strokes, and high blood pressure levels are common in smokers.
It is estimated that if you smoke a pack of cigarettes per day, eight ounces of tar is getting accumulated in your lungs each year. This deposit does not leave your body. This results in the lungs functioning improperly. And as the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood cells is reduced the heart has to function very hardly. The tissues lining the lungs are affected badly due to the toxins and microscopic particles entering through the smoke. These factors contribute in inflaming the bronchial tubes and it can lead to chronic bronchitis. Severe cough is also seen in chain smokers.
The cancers caused by smoking are urinary bladder cancer, throat, and lung cancer. These happen due to the carcinogens which enter the body while you smoke. The carcinogen particles attack your immune system and multiply drastically.
The toxins which enter the body are released through the body pores. Due to the toxic nature the skin gets shriveled when it comes in contact with the toxins. This makes the person to look older than what he actually is. Infertility problems also exist in smokers. If women smoke during pregnancy, it can lead to bleeding and miscarriage also.
When you smoke, the stains from the smoke get deposited on your teeth. As a result it appears brownish yellow, and over a period of time, you smell of tobacco always even if you do not smoke. Even your fingers using which you hold the cigarettes also smell. This can make you uncomfortable to face people and people also will become least interested in speaking to a smelly person. These are the effects on cigarette smoking which can depress you.
