Apart from ingesting the smoke that is inhaled by the smoker through the filter, smokers are also exposed to second hand smoke which is the smoke that is emitted by the cigarette when lit. Aside from the amounts of carbon dioxide and monoxide, recent studies have discovered that this by-product contains hydrogen cyanide. Hydrogen cyanide has long been used as a genocidal weapon used, particularly during the Second World War, where thousands upon thousands of men, women and children suffocate and die as a result of their exposure from this extremely poisonous gas.
